Saturday night, candlelight . . .

Riding out the next round of chemo side effects tonight, Saturday night. Bob's the captain, I'm the helpless first mate . . . Bob loves the soothing glow of candlelight, so we've got a few going around the house, lights turned down low, radio softly playing from the kitchen . . .

We've just been hanging out tonight, keeping things pretty mellow, since the nausea has once again reared it's ugly head and has a pretty strong grip on Bob tonight. He's fought the waves all day, been able to eat small bits here and there, nothing significant. He's spent most of the day just trying to get some rest. Sometimes he succeeds for a while, other times, simply gets restless, fidgety, can't seem to get comfortable . . . upstairs, downstairs, into the bedroom, back out to the living room again . . .

We keep back-tracking to the last time, six weeks ago, when he first started his chemo treatments. It was about 2 days later that the major side effects took hold. Looks like we're right on schedule, going by that reference point, since he started feeling kind of crummy yesterday . . . if he feels this awful tomorrow, I'll be making a phone call to the U; can't let it get out of control as it did last time. Maybe there's something else we can do at home to ward off the electrolyte imbalance, the nausea . . .

My sister, Gretchen, came over for dinner tonight. Just a nice, quiet pasta dinner and wine for us, hanging out in the kitchen, while Bob rested in the living room, getting up very occasionally to come to the kitchen for a glass of water or maybe a cracker. Nice to hang out with my baby sister for a few hours . . .

Well, it appears Bob's been sleeping quite soundly for at least half hour, for sure, at least as long as when I first started this entry. Time for me to close down the joint for the night. Here's hoping and praying this is just a little set-back, a little bump in the road, and that he'll bounce back soon . . .

  1. Hope Bob is feeling a little better today and that he and you got some needed rest last night.
Happy to hear that you and Gretchen got some time together as well.
Today looks like another good day to lay low - gray day.
    Take care of eachother
Many prayers your way - here's hoping Bob doesn't have to head to the U any sooner than planned.
Keeping you both in my thoughts
